Knee Update

Alright, I have been slacking on the supplement research, but hopefully there should be another post coming up in a week or so. Firstly, I would like to thank you all for the prayers that went out for my speedy recovery in those few weeks for, (prayer works yall)! On the flip side, I have found out what is going on with my knee, KINDA. I have been trying to get a diagnosis on whatever it is thats bothering my knee. I went to my chiropractor, massage therapist, an accupuncturist, a lady who specializes in exercise physiology, and got an MRI too. No one could tell me with any definitive answer what was going on. It was a lot of guesswork, but the MRI was the most helpful as far as information.

So, I received the preliminary (MRI) results from the radiologist on Tuesday and they said that I had no tears, fractures, or bruises of any kind. They did mention that my muscle definition was excellent and that it is very strong with all ligiments and tendons intact. Also, towards the bottom of my knee where some of the muscles in my quad, hamstring, and Iliotibial (IT) band connect are a little inflamed and has been causing the muscles around to pull one way or another which was most notably the cause of the excruciating pain in the knee area. Needless to say I need to ice regularly, and lay off of the high intensity workouts for a few weeks to let the swelling go down and muscles to return to normal form.

For some reason my coach wants to claim that I have some tendinitis, which is just swelling of the tendons (serious inflamation) which if not treated accordingly CAN lead to tears in your muscles. Im glad I wasn't planning on doing much for indoor season because this setback would have put me out for all indoor just about. When I get back to actual track workouts I will still have over a month to get on target for my first outdoor meet. All in all good news, just a little speed bump, ya know...this is the life of an athlete

2010 Update!!

It has been a little while since I've spoken to you Blogspot, so Happy New Year to all those reading! Lately, I've been pretty busy with track, my studying, and work. I have actually missed several days on my Bible reading plan and on my personal track journal (for workouts) that I keep so you know its been busy. Fortunately, Im getting caught back up now.

Aside from the busy schedule, I have unfortunately run into a little snag. I have been sitting out the past week of practice due to a small problem in my knee. According to my Chiropractor and physical therapist I have some weak ligaments in my knee and have been advised to strengthen them and refrain from serious intensity practices for a few weeks. Like I said its nothing too troublesome, just an annoyance I guess.

Im not upset that I am not practicing right now, especially since its been SOO COLD in FL for the past week. Im more upset that I won't run in our first meet here in the Orlando area next week. My fitness level is probably the best or near best I've ever felt and Im getting stronger in the weight room so all that transposes to faster times on the track.I was really looking forward to running a fast time in the 400m dash, but it'll have to wait until next month probably.

So if you're reading this it wouldn't hurt to say a little prayer for me and a speedy strengthening and recovery period. This is the life of a track athlete...Thanks Bloggers!
